Here were some of the higlights of this year's A.G.M., which was held in a vacant function room in The Yellow House.
There was tentative agreement to have a Grade 3 "Introductory Walk" every month where possible at the same time as scheduled grade 1 walks. This will evolve over time and then the Committee will see whether this is a workable situation, i.e. the take-up on these walks. This would be in addition to the normally scheduled Grade 3 walks each month.
There was much discussion about how to mark the 10th anniversary of the club (which is this month). First, as requested, Claire Sheehan will lead an "anniversary" walk on Sunday November 29th. Hopefully, we will finish with a photos display in a pub! At the time of typing, the eventual venue for the latter will be The Eden or The Blue Light
January 2010 will see an Annivesary walk (again!) and one night stay in Kippure lodge.
Details to follow
Friday night out for Christmas - details from Michael as follows:
Meeting in the Long Stone pub on Townsend Street behind Pearse Street Garda Station at 9pm on Friday 4th of December ....
Also, Michael reminded people about the Christmas Walk on December 13th. There will be a meal afterwards in the West Wicklow Hotel. Declan reminded people that all dinner-goers (whether on walk or not) should bring a "Kris Kindle" present with them costing about 10Euro.
2010 Walking in Bavaria with Susanne
As per the AGM, we are looking at walking in Bavaria during a bank holiday (or longer if you want as some of us intend to). Details will be flying back and forth but it will be probably be between June and early September.
The Committee for 2009/2010 - same faces, just one change in portfolio-
Justin - Newly appointed chairperson as well as Assistant Walks Co-ordinator
Declan - Walks Co-ordinator
Susan - Secretary
Anne (Butler) - Treasurer
Michael (Short) and Chris - Weekends Away
Alan - Website moderator
Appeals were made by Susan for members to keep her uptodate on changes of postal address and on e-mail addresses, and by Declan for ideas for walks coming into the new year. Declan, particularly, would like leaders to come up with walks, at all grade levels, so he can nail down the new year's schedule. Alan reminded all members that other ideas are welcome too if people want to do their own walks (not necessarily on Sundays).
Anne wants people to submit their 40Euro memberships from this month if not already paid. Receipts will be sent on in due course, if not given to you on the night.
Susan is taking names for a first aid course, particularly those who are rusty in that end of things. Alan is investigating the actual organisation of such a course.
One more thing - during the lively, but good-natured debates, some things were forgotten about. One very important thing worth mentioning is that the Committee appreciates all the hard work put in by the leaders over the past year and thanks them for their enthusiasm and willingness to lead walks.
Busy night between social events and discussions about walks and anniversaries! |
