Autumn notes:

Grade 3 walkers can avail of the walks in August and October and, although there’s only one official Grade 3 in September, keep an eye on the leaders’ announcements, or contact them directly, for possible shorter options on the Grade 2s; some of them (the walks I mean) are not too difficult in themselves.

General notes:

Meeting point, unless otherwise stated is Rosemount Car Park, Marian Road, Rathfarnham.

Directions:

  • Continue from the Yellow House in Rathfarnham (past the former Tuning Fork) along Ballyboden Road to a traffic light junction
  • Turn right onto Ballyroan Road ( Scoil Eanna will be on your left)
  • Take the third Right Hand Turn onto Marian Road – on the left will be Ballyroan Church and Supervalu Supermarket – the car park is in front of the church and shops.

Meeting times are usually 08:45 for 09:00 departure or 09:45 for 10:00 departure but are at the discretion of the walk leader(s).

Route details and estimated walk stats will be advised by the leaders in the week preceding the walk if they are not listed on the schedule.

The most up-to-date schedule, including changes, will be on the Bogtrotters’ website at https://www.bogtrotters.ie. The website also has information about the club and advice on hillwalking.

Walk Grades

Grade 1: 18-24km – over 1000 meters height gain – tough – good level of fitness required – 6 hours plus in duration

Grade 2: 14-18km – 750–1000 meters height gain – strenuous – suitable for most regular walkers – 5-6 hours in duration

Grade 3: 10-14km – up to 750 meters height gain – moderate – suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness – 4-5 hours in duration

Walks are generally off track and across rough terrain and steep hills.

Note 1 – All walkers should carry with them a high visibility jacket, head torch and whistle.

Note 2 – All walks should adhere to the grade guidelines as far as possible.
